After the Wall Street Journal published an article on exercise dresses, I could not wait for the one I'd just ordered from Aerie's new Offline collection to arrive in the mail.
The Offline collection consists of pieces that feel softer than any other workout clothes Aerie has made before. As with this dress, it's made of polyester and eIastane, so the fabric is perfect for breaking a sweat in.
While I haven't worn this dress specifically for exercising yet, I know this truly is an exercise dress. The top is supportive and fits like a sports bra and it has built in nylon bike shorts — as all exercise dresses should, if you actually want to exercise in them.
I wear this dress to the boat, and after a day of swimming in the river, I'm able to change out of my suit and throw this on. Normally, I don't like open back clothing, but the back on this mimics the look of a bathing suit, so it lets the sun hit your back.
I'm not used to seeing an exercise dress outside of a tennis court, but I do think I would head on a walk in this, especially since this dress removes the hassle of hiking up leggings or running shorts while on your stroll. Having the option to dress up my workout getup isn't something I'm opposed to.
I threw on the Offline Denim Boyfriend Jacket to see if I could transform the dress into something more casual, and I think it worked out. What do you think?
Hopefully more exercise dresses pop-up throughout the season, especially as the majority of workouts move outside with gyms closed due to COVID-19.
